Debate 2
Why to choose a Public University?
When you are planning your professional and academic career, one of the most important topics is the University in where you are going to study. All they are very different, pros and cons are giving according to careers, walks of life which you want to get close, quality of teachers and longevity of the institution, etc. But there is a common way to separate them in two groups with similar characteristics: Private and Public Universities. This is a good way to start choosing the right institution that reaches your needs.
The main difference is the source of their funds that makes studying at a private university much higher than in public, so that the latter is more accessible to students who do not have a privileged socioeconomic status. This is due that public ones operate largely with funds from local government and private universities are self-financing.
Thanks to this, there are more support to investigations and the student can contribute with new ideas. Have more infrastructures to work and study, also the student live in an atmosphere of greater freedom, democratic and participatory. In private ones there are more restrictions in this regard.
The reputation is important too and is more frequently that a Public University is more recognized in other countries for work and continues the studies. There is a perception that private universities is easier to graduate, often even rumored that some of them "you can buy titles," while in public perception is that the student must work hard and overcome many obstacles in order to graduate.
Dividing the universities into publics and privates is a way to classify them, but the best way to choose where to study depends in the career you want. Because there are someone’s that are better in some topic, but worst in other. Is better to look comparison between universities in the career you want.
